Transdermal Drug Delivery System Using Microneedles

Abstract
A new approach of transdermal drug delivery, microneedles, has been developed for active transdermal drug delivery. Arrays of microneedles have been created to act as a bridge between conventional injections and transdermal patches. Microneedles have been focused because of convenience for use, less pain and dramatic increase of skin permeability. There are four types of microneedles, solid polymer microneedles, coated microneedles, hollow microneedles and formulated microneedles and fabrication method depends on kinds of microneedle material and type of microneedle. Compared to other transdermal drug delivery methods, microneedles can provide less pain, delivery of macromolecules into skin and economical treatment. Various kinds of protein drugs can be delivered through skin by combining with microneedle system.
